There are 30 miles of bike lanes in place in Charlotte, construction proceeding at 5-10 miles per year. This is in the context of bikeway system of which lanes is one component. The bikeway long-range plan projects 150 miles by year 2015 and 350 miles by year 2030.
Although lanes are currently being added on an ad hoc basis where an opportunity for resurfacing takes place, in the long run, the expectation is that lanes will function in the context of a total network.
Cycling Demographics…An Influential Target Audience:
According to the National Association of Sporting Goods Retailers (NASGR), Cycling is the second most popular recreational activity in the United States, even without being a TV sport. NASGR also states there are more cyclists in the US than skiers, golfers, & tennis players combined.

• 55% are male and 45% are female;
• 63% are professional;
• 75% have attended college;
